In the Arizona Territory of the late 19th century and early 20th century, the Apache Indians were the rulers and monarchs of what are now refer to as the Pinal and White Mountains. The headquarters of Geronimo’s tribe, known as the Stronghold, was hidden so well in those beautiful granite boulders, and pine covered mountains that no one could find it, if the Apache outlook or guard at its entrance didn’t want it found. Here we see a lone Apache coming down from the stronghold to the more open desert.
