The Gunfight at OK Corral in Tombstone, Arizona is part myth, legend and historical fact. Growing up in Prescott, Arizona, another wild, Old West frontier town, filled Bill’s young imagination with stories of gun fights, saloons, sheriffs and outlaws. Wyatt Earp, his brothers and Doc Holiday lived and worked in Prescott during the years just prior to the infamous encounter at Tombstone. Death and destruction were not over as the bullets stoped flying that day in Tombstone.
In the months following the gunfight, Virgil Earp was wounded and Morgan was murdered. In this sculpture, Bill gives his interpretation of Wyatt going after the “Cowboy faction” who he believed to be responsible for his brothers’ tragedies. In the legends of Wyatt it was said he was not looking for violent revenge, but for a righteous Reckoning.
